the opening and closing of one eye is not for the attention of another
it is a mere relief effort
to the beloved organ
that is suffering from a
stye

i am batting my lashes to give it some air to breathe

better have a double take

actually, when you wink (or close your eye at all) you are contracting muscles on opposite ends of your eye. they pull away from each other causing tension on your eyelid, thus closing it. kind of like when you hold a rubberband at 2 points, then pull those points apart from one another.
hence, you're most relaxed when your eyes are open O_O
